Congratulations to the JCCHS senior Elizabeth Okunbor on her selection as the Kiwanis Club of Birmingham Youth of the Year for 2023! Elizabeth was recognized at an awards luncheon on Tuesday, April 18. Out of 80 total scholar applications six students were recognized at the luncheon. Elizabeth and Markelle Scott from Huffman High School were selected as Co-Youth of the Year Recipients.
Since 1970, the Kiwanis Club of Birmingham has awarded more than a quarter of a million dollars to graduating high school seniors in Jefferson and Shelby Counties. The students they honor exemplify scholarship, citizenship, service, and leadership.
Elizabeth will be attending the University of Alabama at Birmingham in the fall. She is the Founder and President of the John Carroll Business Club, the Mu Alpha Theta Treasurer, a Campus Ministry Minister, and a member of the National Honor Society. She also serves on the Heritage Panel and is a member of the Environmental Club. #gocavs
