On Wednesday, February 26 JCCHS celebrated Black History Month with a special assembly recognizing Black Achievements.

Achievements were highlighted in 4 areas - society/politics, the arts, literature, and music. The guest speaker was Mr. Johnnie Johnson, Jr, who was the first black police chief of Birmingham. He is also the grandfather of Cavalier freshman Arianna Sherrod.

The Honors Mixed Ensemble sang MLK by U2, and the Jazz Band performed Swing by Duke Ellington and April in Paris by Count Basie. Students also read poetry from Langston Hughes and Naomi Long Madgett.

The planning committee was made up of Miracle Tripp, Olivia Grant, Johanna Curry, Kourtney Bufford, Veronica Walker, and Arianna Sherrod. Their moderator is Mrs. Ginny McMillan.
