Back to School 2021-2022

Returning Student Information

Dear Returning Students & Parents,

It is with gratitude and thankfulness that I am writing to you about a return to school for the 2021-2022 academic year.  We are excited about the start of the new year and appreciate the opportunity to educate and serve our school community.

As a Catholic school, John Carroll’s primary responsibility is to form our students into disciples of Christ, as well as support their growth academically, athletically and culturally.   A return to classes and to a ‘normal’ school calendar is very exciting, and will provide many more opportunities for our students to continue to flourish.  We also look forward to a return to many of the extra-curricular activities and traditions that make John Carroll special.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How do I view my class schedule?

Students will be able to view their schedules by next Monday, July 26th.  Schedules will be available through the student and parent portal login to FACTS/RenWeb.  Please do not use Google Classroom as it may not have the most accurate information yet.  When reviewing your child’s schedule on FACTS/Renweb, you should see all 8 class periods, homeroom/lunch.

What if I need to make a change to my schedule or my schedule is incomplete?

Schedule change requests should be made to the student’s grade level counselor.  We will work to accommodate as many schedule change requests as possible however, if classes are full or the schedule doesn’t allow for it, the student will remain where they are currently scheduled.  If you have an incomplete schedule, please contact your grade level counselor.

  • Note - the schedule change fee will be waived through August 12th

  • Seniors may request to be a teacher aide, office aide, or PE aide as one of their classes

How does Morning Bus Service work?

Locations of pickup

Our Lady of the Valley (Highway 119)

Prince of Peace (Hoover)

St. Francis Xavier (Montclair Rd./Crestwood)

Busses arrive at each location by 6:55am and depart for John Carroll at 7am. The first morning of bus service will be Thursday, August 5th.  At this time the busses only run in the mornings and students must coordinate their own transportation after school.  To sign up for Morning Bus Service please follow this link.  There is a nominal fee ($1.00 per day) to ride the bus.  If there is interest, we may start a bus leaving from Our Lady of Sorrows in Homewood.

How late can students be picked up in the afternoons?

Students not involved in supervised after school activities should be picked up by 4pm each day and are required to remain in The Commons or in the Cafeteria until their ride arrives.

What do I need as a student driver?

All students who drive their own cars to school are required to get a John Carroll Parking Permit.  The form can be found here.  (www.jcchs.org then Families/Student Resources)

How do I find the details for the Student Dress Code?

The purpose of the John Carroll uniform, and dress code, is to ensure a look of unity and equality within our school community. The uniform of John Carroll is traditional and modest. Students should avoid any variation in attire that distracts from the intention of the uniform or calls undue attention to themselves. Students must present a neat, clean, and modest appearance at all times. Anything detracting from this look (e.g. unnatural hair styles/colors, and/or hair accessories, shirts un-tucked, pants worn below the waist, etc.) is considered to be out of compliance.  The Student Handbook is available through the John Carroll website and provides all the details needed to start the year off right.  The student dress code will be strictly enforced beginning on the first day of school, Wednesday, August 4th.

Can I use my cell phone?  What is your cell phone policy?

Screen use can interfere with the establishment of a productive learning environment, and therefore cell phones are not allowed during the school day, between 7:55am and 3:05pm. When students arrive at school they will be required to turn their phones off and store them away and out of sight. If a student is found using their phone or if the phone rings or causes any sort of disruption in the classroom, the cellphone will be taken by the teacher or staff member.  The phone will only be returned to a parent or guardian.  The phone will not be returned to the student.

We appreciate parental support of this policy and ask that parents be mindful when they text or call their child.  Before school starts or after dismissal are ideal times.  If there is an emergency, and parents/guardians need to reach their child during the school day, they can call the school office at 205-940-2400 and we will assist.  Likewise, the telephone in the school office is always available if a student needs to reach a parent/guardian.
