STEP TWO: HIGH SCHOOL PLACEMENT TEST
HSPT (High School Placement Test) - This is a national high school exam written by Scholastic Testing Services. The exam covers five areas: verbal, language, reading, math skills, and quantitative math (math aptitude). This test is mandatory and will help determine your placement in John Carroll's academic program.
Incoming Freshmen (Catholic Partner Schools): Placement tests for the 2021-2022 school year will be given on-site at each Catholic Partner School in October or November (your school will notify you of your specific testing date). If you are absent on the day the test is given at your school the makeup date is Saturday, October 17 at 7:45am at John Carroll.
All Other Rising 9th Grade Applicants: The Placement Test for all other rising ninth-grade students will be given on Saturday, October 17 at 7:45am at John Carroll. Please follow this link to register for the test and let us know you will be coming!
Transfer Applicants: After you have completed your application a member of our Admissions Team will be in touch with you to discuss testing requirements.
STEP THREE: RECORDS REVIEW BY JOHN CARROLL ADMISSION TEAM
Academic records are used in conjunction with the High School Placement Test (HSPT) scores as a tool in the admissions and course placement process. Records are requested as a part of the online application.
Incoming Freshman (All Applicants):
* 6th and 7th grade final grades
* 8th grade first quarter report card
* 6th and 7th grade standardized test scores
* a current unofficial transcript
* standardized test scores from the past two years.
STEP FOUR: RECOMMENDATIONS REVIEW BY JOHN CARROLL ADMISSIONS TEAM
Recommendation Forms are required from the following: Principal or School Counselor, current English teacher and current Math teacher. Recommendations are requested as a part of the online application.
STEP FIVE: APPLICATION REVIEW & DECISION BY JOHN CARROLL ADMISSIONS TEAM
All applications received and requirements completed by November 1, 2020, will be reviewed for an admissions decision by December 1, 2020. All other applicants and incomplete files will be held for an acceptance review in January 2021.
