JCCHS Hosts Veterans Day Assembly

John Carroll hosted a Veterans Day Assembly honoring the service of all Veterans but most especially those Veterans who are a part of our community (Cavalier Alumni and family members of current John Carroll students).  Approximately 25 Veterans attended the assembly - representing all branches of the military.

The students enjoyed the talents of the John Carroll band and choir, and heard special recorded messages from alumni who have served in the Armed Forces.

The highlight of the assembly was special guest speaker, 1991 Cavalier graduate, Dr. Julie Kroviak (Deputy Assistant Inspector General for Healthcare Inspections for the Dept. of Veterans Affairs). Dr. Kroviak shared with the students her deep love and commitment to Veterans and their healthcare needs, and encouraged them to find their passion by 'having faith and sharpening the tools in their toolbox'.

During an October 2021 Capitol Hill hearing before a House Panel investigating tragic failures at VHA facilities, Dr. Kroviak had these comments during her testimony:

“Some leaders across multiple levels of VHA do not consistently ensure the safety of the veterans they serve.”

“The unfortunate outcomes could have been minimized or prevented had leaders created and supported an environment that prioritized patient safety.”

We would like to extend a special thank you to all the Veterans who joined us today and as always, we thank them and all Veterans for their service to our country!
