GIVING TUESDAY (11.28.23)

November 13, 2023
Jack Chandler (Senior)

A Home Away from Home

For the past three years leading up to my senior year, John Carroll has been so much more than just a school to me. It has been a place where I have found warmth, support, and guidance from the teachers and coaches who have become a part of my life along the way. It has been a place where I have learned, grown, and developed into the person I am today. But most importantly, it has been a place that has offered me a sense of belonging, a 'second home' where I feel loved and value

More than Just Education

Being a student at John Carroll is not just about academic learning. It's about personal growth, about developing character, and about understanding the importance of community and family. I am just one of six kids in my family to attend John Carroll, and the school has played a significant role in all our lives, shaping us into responsible and compassionate individuals. Seven years ago, when we lost our father to heart disease, it was the John Carroll family that stood by us, supporting us through the challenging times. Without their support, I don't know how we could have navigated through the immense los

Financial Support and Opportunities

Coming from a one-income household, financial constraints could have been a major obstacle to my education. But, thanks to John Carroll's tuition assistance, I have had the opportunity to make the most of my high school years. This financial aid has allowed me to focus on my studies, participate in sports like football, and engage in various school events. It has given me the chance to grow as an individual, not just academically but in many other ways.

Personal Growth and Faith

John Carroll is not just about academics and extracurricular activities. It's also a place where spiritual growth is encouraged. My faith has grown tremendously since I've been here, and it continues to grow each day. It is this spiritual foundation that has helped me remain resilient in the face of life's challenges and be grateful for the opportunities that have come my way.

Gratitude and Looking Forward

I am incredibly grateful for the support I have received over the past three years and as I embark on my senior year. The opportunity to study at John Carroll and the support I have received has allowed me to better myself in every possible way. It is my hope that others like me, are given the same opportunity to grow and flourish in this nurturing environment.

John Carroll has indeed been a blessing in my life and the lives of my siblings. It is more than just a school; it is a community, a family, a 'second home'. And as I prepare to graduate and embark on the next phase of my life, I am confident that the values and lessons I have learned here will guide me through the journey ahead.  Thank you to all the alumni and friends of the school who remember John Carroll on Giving Tuesday.  It truly is #becauseofyou.
