At JCCHS, it is our goal to serve all families that choose to invest in their child's future by committing to a John Carroll education. John Carroll strives to make tuition affordable for everyone and we encourage all families to apply for our tuition assistance programs.

John Carroll, in partnership with the Diocese of Birmingham in Alabama, is committed to providing an affordable, quality, Catholic education for its families. In an effort to be good stewards of the resources we have been given, all schools participating in the Diocese of Birmingham tuition assistance program utilize the FACTS Grant & Aid application process. FACTS is a national tuition management company whose services provide for an independent determination of financial need and the equitable allocation of available tuition assistance funds.

We offer need-based tuition assistance on a fund-available basis for families who have demonstrated need. Assessment of annual financial need is determined by FACTS, a third-party financial institution, and is in compliance with the requirements of TSSAA.

John Carroll is grateful for the benefactors, alumni and friends of the school that make it possible for us to award tuition assistance to (on average) 1/3 of our Cavalier families. The deadline to apply for tuition assistance for the 2026-2027 school year is March 31, 2026.

Tuition Assistance is an annual application. Families must apply each year.
Families applying for JCCHS Tuition Assistance must also complete the The CHOOSE Act application as well (see details in the Tuition Assistance tab below).
It's important to have your prior year tax returns completed. They are required as a part of the application.
Award decisions will be emailed to families no later than April 15.

The Choose Act

THE CHOOSE ACT Alabama

Families across Alabama are empowered to build the stronger futures they want for their children and guide them to the joy-filled lives of purpose God intends for them, through greater access to Catholic education provided by the passage of The CHOOSE Act Alabama.

Signed into law by Governor Kay Ivey on March 7, 2024, the CHOOSE Act makes refundable income tax credits available in an educational savings account (ESA) to pay up to $7,000 of tuition and other qualifying educational expenses.

The CHOOSE Act Alabama has announced the application timeline for the 2026-2027 academic year.

Renewing family applications start on December 15, 2025, and end on March 31, 2026.
New family applications start on January 2, 2026, and end on March 31, 2026.
Renewing families must actively apply; renewals are not automatic.
ALL John Carroll families are encouraged to apply.

Scholarship Granting Organizations

The Alabama Accountability Act has strict guidelines on who is eligible for scholarship funds.

1. The family must have an income at or below 185% of the federal poverty level. New applicants with siblings currently in the program are subject to the ‘New Applicant’ income threshold.

2. Students zoned to Failing Schools in Alabama have priority over students in non-failing school zones. Failing School List

3. Only 25% of all new scholarships can be awarded to students continuously enrolled in a private school the previous year.

JCCHS Tuition Assistance

Families interested in applying for JCCHS Tuition Assistance (Financial Aid) must submit a new application each year (JC Tuition Assistance does not renew automatically). To be considered, please ensure you complete the application annually.

Important Requirement

If your family plans to apply for JC Tuition Assistance, you are required to also apply for the Alabama CHOOSE Act scholarship.

You do not have to be awarded CHOOSE Act funding, but you must submit a CHOOSE Act application to be considered for JC Tuition Assistance.

Easy Application Through FACTS

The CHOOSE Act application process is quick and easy to complete through FACTS; the same system our families already use for tuition and financial aid.

When applying, you will simply:

Log in to your FACTS account
Select the CHOOSE Act application
Complete the required information and upload any requested documents

The CHOOSE Act provides eligible families with Education Savings Accounts that can be used toward private school tuition, helping support families pursuing private education.
