John Carroll Catholic High School offers a wide range of college preparatory courses that give our students the opportunity to explore career paths and new skills while building a strong academic foundation in math, science, language, history and theology.

Academic Courses of Study

HONORS/AP COURSE OF STUDY: is designed to challenge motivated students to pursue their studies at a greater depth. Courses at this level rely on the independent study, research, analysis, argumentation, and critical thinking involved with the highest level of academic work. Honors/AP courses are open to students based on academic ability, interest in subject material, and motivation of the student to excel in challenging courses.

ADVANCED COURSE OF STUDY: is designed to prepare students for college level work and to develop a lifelong love of learning. Coursework emphasizes effective communication through reading, writing, and argumentation. Students are expected to develop into independent, informed, critical thinkers over the course of their four years at John Carroll. Advanced courses are open to students who meet academic requirements.

Advanced Placement (AP) Classes

John Carroll offers a variety of AP Courses that provide students the opportunity to engage in college-level work during their high school years. AP Courses are taught by John Carroll teachers and developed in partnership with college-level experts through the College Board. Colleges and universities may grant credit and course placement to students based on AP exam scores. John Carroll offers the AP Courses listed below. Grade Reporting

John Carroll uses the following grading scale to record grades at mid-quarter progress reports and at the end of each quarter and semester. Semester/transcript grades are recorded as letter grades, and progress report/quarter grades are recorded numerically.

Graduation Requirements

In order to graduate from JCCHS, a student must earn a minimum of 26.5 academic credits, as outlined below, and fulfill the community service requirements through the Cavs IN Service Program.

Honor Roll & Diplomas

HONOR ROLL:

In recognition of outstanding academic achievement, John Carroll awards students with exceptional grade point averages (GPA) membership to the John Carroll Honor Roll. First Honors are awarded to student with a GPA of 4.0 and above. Second Honors are awarded to students with a GPA of 3.5 to 3.9.

DIPLOMAS:

All students will receive the John Carroll College Preparatory Diploma. High Honors and Honors distinctions are based on a student's cumulative GPA.

Dual Enrollment

John Carroll is proud to partner to offer 11th and 12th grade students the opportunity to enroll in college courses concurrently with high school classes and earn college and high school credits simultaneously through our Dual Enrollment Program.
