OUR HISTORY

Mr. John Amos Carroll

  Mr. John Carroll

"It is with a profound feeling of gratitude that I announce with pleasure the name of the proposed Catholic high school for Birmingham.  The fact that we will break ground and begin construction this fall is due almost solely to the efforts that my late friend and staunch Catholic layman, John A. Carroll, made in its behalf.  The Catholic high school was John Carroll's heart and utmost material desire.  He gave generously of his time and money.

Unfortunately, John did not live to see the fruition of his dreams.  Therefore, in due honor to a stanuch defender of the Church, our homes, and our country,  I shall name the new school John Carroll Catholic High School."

- Archbishop Thomas J. Toolen, D.D. (1946)
