New Clubs and Organizations
Athletic Club: A group consisting of students who simply love sports. Possible activities could be intra-team competitions in sports other than those played competitively for JCCHS (ultimate Frisbee?), sponsoring competitions such as the students-faculty volleyball game or powder puff football, and possibly a school-wide and family-oriented field day with unusual competitions for everyone (three-legged race, Big Wheel race, etc.).
Environmental Club: Go Green-John Carroll Green! This club would help to ensure that JCCHS does its part to protect our environment. Activities could include campus-wide recycling, neighborhood and community clean-up days, guest speakers, Earth Day education programs, promotion of Environmental Club reusable mugs to reduce solid waste, and fund-raising for The Nature Conservancy.
Outdoor Adventure Club - A club that seeks to provide outdoor experiences that promote health and wellness while promoting an appreciation of God's creation. Activities include hiking, biking, rock climbing, canoeing, camping, caving, and on and on, as well as community service projects in the great outdoors.
International Club: This group celebrates the diversity of JCCHS. Its purpose is to promote cultural awareness, to encourage the study of different cultures, and to help our community become aware of the various issues facing society in regards to diversity.
Movie Club: For students who love movies. Possible activities would be attending the Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival in September, sponsoring a school-wide movie festival or movie night, viewing and discussing movies within the club, attending movies at local special theaters such as the IMAX at McWane or one of the special showings at the Alabama, and a contest for student-produced videos.
Photography Club: For students who enjoy the art of photography. No experience necessary. Digital and film cameras may be used and both black and white and color covering various photographic procedures and techniques. Students' work may be used in yearbook, newspaper, school website, etc. An end of the year art show would show students' work produced throughout the year.
S.A.D.D. (Students Against Destructive Decisions) S.A.D.D. is a national peer leadership organization dedicated to preventing destructive decisions, particularly underage drinking, other drug use, impaired driving, teen violence and teen depression and suicide. This group aims to inform, educate, support and empower young people to make positive decisions in their lives.
Scholar's Bowl: For students who love to use their brains! Just like in Jeopardy, students compete with each other to buzz in with the correct answers to questions on a variety of topics. The Scholar's Bowl team may also compete with teams from other schools. There is also a state-wide competition.
