Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to John Carroll Catholic High School Athletic Weight Training Program!
An athletic weight training program is a wonderful opportunity for our students/athletes to associate with each other and strengthen his/her body. Most high school coaches and parents agree that athletes do not have an abundance of free time. Many athletes compete in two sports, thus leaving little time for a strength program. By offering Athletic Weight Training, you child has the opportunity to work on their body strength during the school day, which should compliment their busy schedules.
UNIFORM POLICY
All students need the following in order to be properly prepared for their class:
- A JCCHS physical education uniform that can be purchased from your physical education teacher at the beginning of school. The cost is $24.00. Please make your check payable to John Carroll Catholic High School in the amount of $24.00 and include your student identification number on the check.
- Gym shoes, athletic socks, towel, soap and deodorant.
- Your uniform must be taken home for washing at the end of each week.
GRADING
Students will be graded on daily participation and dressing out. Students must be dressed in the proper JCCHS P.E. uniform.
A 100 point system is used for each nine week period. Points can be lost on a daily basis as follows:
- 5 points – improper gym wear/non dress
- 10 points – unexcused/non-participation
NON DRESS POLICY
Every student is required to dress out and participate every day. Failure to dress out is considered refusal to cooperate with the teacher and will result in loss of points.
EXCUSED NON DRESS POLICY
In order for a student to be excused for not dressing out or participating because of illness or injury, the student must have a note explaining the reason, signed by a parent/guardian. Students may be excused with a note from a parent for only two days per quarter; thereafter, a physician’s statement is required.
ABSENTEE POLICY AND MEDICAL EXCUSES
For a student to be excused from dressing out or participating because of illness, the student must have a note explaining the reason and signed by a parent or guardian. The student will be required to do some type of modified participation or written assignment for that day. A note may excuse students from his/her class for two days; thereafter, a physician’s statement is required.
LOCKERS AND BASKETS
A lock, basket, and locker will be assigned to each student. A $5.00 fee will be charged if the student loses the lock!

Varsity Athletic Physical Education
This class is designed as a weightlifting class. We will lift weights two days per week with two days for a physical education activity. Students are required to dress out and participate in all exercises unless excused by a doctor’s written permission. In the athletic class, we use the nationally acclaimed lifting program of Bigger, Stronger, Faster. We are on a four week rotation of high repetitions and low weight to low weight to low repetitions and high weights, with the fourth week designed to test the students maximum capabilities in core lifts, squats, bench and power cleans. Each student will establish a maximum of each lift and works for percentages of this maximum for each of the four cycles. Below, you will find a weekly schedule of our lifts. If at any time you need to contact Coach Harbin, please call JCCHS and ask for extension 271.
Monday: Bench, Incline, Military (curls)
Wednesday: Squats and Power Cleans. (Dumbells)
