Coach Buczek was hired at John Carroll in 1985 as defensive coordinator for the varsity football team, head coach for girls' tennis, and freshman boys' basketball coach. In January of 93 he was appointed Director of Athletics and under his leadership the athletic program has produced 17 state championships and 23 runner-ups.
The Kwanis Club named John Carroll the top Metro Area Sports program in 1997, 1998, and 2000.
