10th Grade - What Can I Do Now To Prepare For College?
Remember it is a marathon, not a sprint. You will get there with careful planning.
Take college preparatory courses.
Prepare for the PLAN and SAT. The results will help you focus on areas that need improvement for the ACT and SAT next year.
Review your goals - make sure you are on the right path to achieve them - and then take constructive steps to reach them.
Attendance, grades, and leadership count. Stretch yourself by making a difference at John Carroll. Keep up the good work!
Create a portfolio of achievements if you do not have one already. Add new accomplishments to your existing portfolio.
Stay committed to extracurricular activities. If you aren't involved, find an activity or job that will use your talents best.
Attend summer academic programs that will help your transition to college.
Connect possible majors in college to careers
Go on Naviance to help with your college search.
Attend the college night and talk to representatives to see if they have a major for you for the careers you are considering.
Set up tours and take trips to colleges as you can and talk to them about your career and how they can help.
Learn test taking strategies for the ACT and SAT.
Consider taking the SAT II tests if you have completed an AP course. Sign up at collegeboard.com.
Begin to work on the essay for a college application and remember it needs to be uniquely you.
In paying for college your parents might attend the Financial Aid workshop at John Carroll.
Be accountable for your activities and grades!
Attend summer programs that match your career plans, and make a difference in someone's life.
